October Career Workshops in Omaha: Mock Interviews, Resume Help and a Record-Sealing Clinic
OMAHA, NE — Heartland Workforce Solutions has a busy second half of October lined up at its Ames Avenue center in North Omaha, and none of it involves standing in a job fair line. Between Oct. 13 and Oct. 28, Omaha job seekers can sit for a practice interview with a coach, get a resume torn apart and rebuilt, learn some money basics from a Chase banker, and, for anyone whose old record keeps getting in the way of an offer, apply for a Saturday clinic with Legal Aid of Nebraska to set aside or seal eligible cases.
Five October career workshops across Omaha and Bellevue, Oct. 13 to Oct. 28: mock interviews, two resume sessions, a finance workshop and a record-sealing clinic. Most ask you to sign up first.

📅 Table of Contents
- Oct. 13 — Chase Money Skills Finance Workshop
- Oct. 14, 21 and 28 — Mock Interview Days
- Oct. 20 — Resume Workshop with Dynamic Workforce Solutions
- Oct. 21 — Resume and Cover Letter Workshop in Bellevue

Two hiring events land in the same stretch, and they are different animals. The Goodwill Omaha Trades Job Fair on Oct. 14 is a real job fair at 72nd Street, and the Spooktacular Job Fair on Oct. 28 runs from 4 to 6 p.m. in the same Ames Avenue building as the workshops below. Workshop first, job fair second is not a bad plan.
Chase Money Skills Finance Workshop — Tuesday, Oct. 13
11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. | HWS Ames Location, 5752 Ames Ave., Omaha
Shari Strong, a vice president and community manager with Chase, runs this monthly session as an open question and answer hour, so the topics follow whatever the room wants to know. It is a fit for anyone starting a new job, coming off a stretch of unemployment, or trying to make a first paycheck stretch further. The HWS listing marks it open to all and does not mention registration, so call ahead if you want to be sure of a seat.
Mock Interview Days — Wednesdays, Oct. 14, 21 and 28
8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. | HWS Ames Location, 5752 Ames Ave., Omaha
Experienced interview coaches run practice interviews and give one-on-one feedback on how you answered, not just what you said. HWS pitches it to first-time job seekers and to people angling for a step up. Signing up through the registration form on the HWS mock interview page is encouraged to hold your slot. The Oct. 28 session is the one to circle if you plan to stay in the building for the Spooktacular Job Fair that afternoon. Bring the job posting you are chasing so the coach can ask the questions that employer is likely to ask.
Resume Workshop with Dynamic Workforce Solutions — Tuesday, Oct. 20
10:00 – 11:30 a.m. | HWS Ames Location, Sarpy Room, 5752 Ames Ave., Omaha
This interactive session with HWS partner Dynamic Workforce Solutions runs on the third Tuesday of each month, so a missed date is not the end of the road. Registration is required through the form on the HWS event page. Bring your current resume on paper or on a laptop, plus the dates and duties of your last few jobs, so you can rewrite on the spot.
Resume and Cover Letter Workshop in Bellevue — Wednesday, Oct. 21
5:00 – 7:30 p.m. | Lift Up Sarpy County, 1620 Wilshire Drive #301, Bellevue
The only evening session on the list, and the only one south of the Douglas County line, which makes it the easy pick for Sarpy County residents and anyone working a day shift. Attendees walk through the main resume formats, figure out which one fits their goals, practice a cover letter and get feedback on the resume they already have. Register through the link on the HWS listing.
Set Aside and Record Sealing Clinic — Saturday, Oct. 24
9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. | HWS Ames Location, 5752 Ames Ave., Omaha
Legal Aid of Nebraska brings its free clinic to the Ames Avenue center for people whose criminal background is costing them jobs, school or housing. Legal Aid helps with petitions to set aside eligible Nebraska convictions and seal eligible charges. A set-aside does not erase a conviction, and a judge still decides each petition, but it can change how the record reads to an employer. Apply through the online application on the Legal Aid of Nebraska events page or call its AccessLine at 1-877-250-2016.
⚠️ Read This Before You Show Up for the Clinic
- No walk-ins. Legal Aid says appointments are limited and handed out first come, first served. Apply now, not the week of.
- The application takes time. Legal Aid estimates 20 to 30 minutes, with questions about your case, household and finances, because eligibility is based on income and assets.
- Local cases only, at least at its last clinic here. Legal Aid's listing for its August clinic at the same address limited it to Douglas and Sarpy County cases and ruled out anyone with pending charges, new offenses since May 2024, or less than a year since finishing their most recent sentence. The October listing does not repeat those terms, so confirm when you apply.
- Keep your slot. Legal Aid warns that missing a scheduled appointment may limit your access to future clinics.
🔎 How to Pick the Right Ones
- Interviews keep stalling: book a Mock Interview Day, ideally Oct. 21, so you have a week to fix what the coach flags before the Oct. 28 job fair.
- No callbacks at all: the problem is probably the resume. Take the Oct. 20 workshop in Omaha or the Oct. 21 evening session in Bellevue.
- A background check keeps ending the conversation: apply for the Oct. 24 clinic today.
- Just landed a job: the Oct. 13 finance workshop is built for the first-paycheck questions.
What to Bring to Any of Them
- A printed resume, even a rough one, and a pen
- Your work history with dates, employer names and supervisor contacts
- A specific job posting or two you want to apply for
- For the clinic, whatever case information you have on hand, such as case numbers and sentence completion dates
🔎 Where Omaha Is Hiring Now
A sharper resume only helps if it goes somewhere. Omaha's hiring runs deep in health care, transportation, finance and insurance, and the warehouses that ring the metro from Elkhorn to the Sarpy County line, and several of those sectors hire people still building a work history.
