What the Bellevue Resume Workshop Covers

This is a working session, not a lecture. According to the HWS listings, the workshop walks through the main resume formats, helps you figure out which one fits the job you are actually chasing, covers how to write a cover letter that does more than repeat your resume, and gives you feedback on the resume you already have.

The two dates are the same workshop, so pick the one that fits your schedule. If you are applying now, take Nov. 18. If you are working a seasonal job through the holidays and plan to search in January, Dec. 16 lands right where you need it.

Why an Evening Session in Sarpy County Matters

Much of the free help HWS offers runs during business hours at its center on Ames Avenue in North Omaha. That works for someone between jobs. It does not work for someone pulling a day shift in La Vista, Papillion or at a warehouse off Highway 370 who wants a better job without losing a day's pay. A 5 p.m. start south of the Douglas County line is built for exactly that person, and for military spouses near Offutt who are rebuilding a resume after another move.

Neither HWS listing states a cost, so ask when you register if that matters to you. Everything else, including the registration link, is on the Nov. 18 event page and the Dec. 16 event page.

📋 How to Show Up Ready

  • Your current resume, printed or on a laptop, even if it is rough
  • Dates, employer names and duties for your last few jobs
  • One or two job postings you want to apply for, so the feedback is aimed at real targets

Between the Two Workshops: A Job Fair

The calendar lines up well. Take the Nov. 18 workshop, then bring the new resume to the free LiveWell DressWell Community Job Fair on Wednesday, Dec. 9 in North Omaha, which runs from 3 to 6 p.m. and is open to everyone. Different event, different day, different purpose: the workshop sharpens the paperwork, the fair puts it in front of employers.

If an old criminal record is what keeps ending the conversation, Legal Aid of Nebraska runs free set-aside and record-sealing clinics for people who qualify. It lists a clinic for Saturday, Nov. 14 but has not published the location, takes no walk-ins, and its online application is temporarily down. Call its AccessLine at 1-877-250-2016 to apply and ask where the next clinic near Omaha will be held. Details are on the Legal Aid events page.
