Baker's Marketplace at 204th and Q: 300+ Jobs Coming to West Omaha

OMAHA, NE — Out where 204th Street meets Q Street, past the rooftops of Elkhorn's newest subdivisions, a Baker's far larger than the chain's usual neighborhood store is nearly finished. The 123,000-square-foot Baker's Marketplace is expected to employ more than 300 people, and hiring signs are already up around the property.

A $40 million Baker's Marketplace northwest of 204th and Q is set to open later this year with 300-plus jobs. No grand opening date has been announced, so now is the time to apply.

What's Being Built at 204th and Q

This isn't a standard neighborhood Baker's. At roughly 123,000 square feet, it runs about 55,000 square feet larger than a typical store in the chain, and Baker's is branding it as a Marketplace. When the project was announced, Baker's said it would include a Murray's cheese counter, a larger pharmacy with private consultation rooms, expanded meat, seafood and produce departments, a Starbucks with seating, a home and lifestyle section, and a fuel center that sells diesel.

The store broke ground in summer 2025. By late September, Grow Omaha reported that exterior work looked finished and hiring signs were posted around the property. The store is scheduled to open later this year, but no date has been announced.

💼 The Jobs: What 300-Plus Positions Looks Like

Baker's hasn't released a breakdown by role. A store this size, though, pulls from nearly every department a grocer has: cashiers and front-end staff, overnight and daytime stockers, deli and bakery clerks, meat cutters and seafood counter staff, produce, pharmacy technicians, fuel center attendants and a full layer of department leads and assistant managers. Pharmacy and meat roles often need experience or certification. Many front-end and stocking jobs do not.

Baker's recruited for this store earlier this month. A hiring weekend at participating Omaha-area Baker's stores in early September included the 204th and Q location. Why the Timing Matters

New stores staff up in a hurry. Most of the 300-plus hires have to be trained and on the floor before the doors open, and early applicants usually have the widest choice of department and shift. Applying before the grand opening also puts you on the schedule ahead of Thanksgiving and December, the busiest weeks of the grocery year.

The location has something going for it too. The 204th Street corridor is filling in quickly, with Kensington Park's retail pad (where a Panda Express is marked as coming soon) just up the road at 204th and N. For anyone living in Elkhorn, Gretna or the newer neighborhoods along West Center, that's a far shorter drive than heading east to 72nd or 132nd for work.
