Omaha Hiring Events Fall 2026: Job Fair, Employer Spotlights and Free Workshops

Editor's note (September 20, 2026): Heartland Workforce Solutions has now published the location for the September 22 Fortrex spotlight; it is the South 24th Street center, and the details below are updated. We have also added the Bellevue Career Fair and Business Expo on September 24, and marked the two workshops that have already taken place.

OMAHA, NE — The metro's busiest hiring calendar this September wasn't at a convention center or a hotel ballroom. It was inside two plain government buildings, one at 60th and Ames on the north side and one a few blocks off 24th and L in South Omaha, where Heartland Workforce Solutions runs the American Job Center for the Greater Omaha area. Through September its calendar carried a job fair, three employers holding recruiting tables and a run of free workshops — and almost none of it got a press release.

Twelve events, September 14 through December 9, spread across north Omaha, South Omaha, Sarpy County and Bellevue. Five are job fairs, one of them open only to job seekers 55 and older. The rest are recruiting sessions and skills workshops, and we've labeled which is which. Ten have already taken place.

Employer Spotlight: Punch Card — Monday, September 14 and Monday, September 21

Same employer, two Mondays, two sides of town. An Employer Spotlight is not a job fair — it's one company holding a table for three hours, which in practice means you get far more of a recruiter's attention than you would at a ballroom event with forty booths. The first session sat at the Ames Avenue center in north Omaha and the second at the South 24th Street center. Heartland Workforce Solutions did not publish the roles or the pay range for these sessions.

Employer Spotlight: BHJ USA — Tuesday, September 15 and Tuesday, September 22

BHJ USA runs an Omaha plant producing pet food ingredients, and the roles it posts locally skew toward production operator work across day, mid and night shifts. Two sessions in eight days at the same building is usually a sign a company is filling more than one seat, and both have now taken place. Production work here rewards showing up with a clean work history and open shift availability more than it rewards a polished resume — night-shift flexibility is often the thing that moves you to the front. Resume Workshop with Dynamic Workforce Solutions — Tuesday, September 15

This event has passed.

Ninety minutes, and the scheduling here was deliberate: it ended at 11:30 and the BHJ USA spotlight in the same building started at 11:00 and ran to 2:00. Walk out of one and into the other with a resume somebody just looked at. That was the single most efficient two-hour block on this entire calendar, and it cost one morning. Resume and Cover Letter Workshop, Sarpy County — Wednesday, September 16

This event has passed.

The only evening session on the list, and the only one south of the Douglas County line. If you're working days in Papillion, La Vista or Bellevue and cannot take a Tuesday morning off, this is the series to watch for. Heartland Workforce Solutions lists the venue by name but does not publish a street address on its calendar, so confirm the location before you drive to the next one — call HWS at (402) 444-4700.

Mock Interview Days — Wednesday, September 16 and Wednesday, September 23

A seven-hour window on each of two Wednesdays, which suggests appointment slots rather than a room you sit in all day. Both dates have now passed. Mock interviews are the most underused free service in the metro. If it has been a few years since anyone asked you to explain a gap in your work history out loud, doing it once in a room where nothing is at stake is worth more than another evening spent rewriting bullet points. Employer Spotlight: Fortrex — Tuesday, September 22

This event has passed.

Fortrex does food-plant sanitation work, an industry with a real Omaha footprint given how much protein processing runs through this metro and the towns around it. When this guide first went up, the HWS calendar listed the date and time but not which of its two centers was hosting; it later named the South 24th Street center. The session ran the same hours as the BHJ session eight miles north.

Next Chapter: Job Fair, Ages 55+ — Wednesday, September 23

This was the only HWS job fair on the September calendar, and it was built for one group. "Next Chapter" is a recurring HWS event aimed at job seekers 55 and older — people coming out of a long career, people who retired and found out they weren't done, people whose industry moved on without them. The value of an age-targeted room is that nobody in it is going to be surprised by a thirty-year work history. HWS did not publish the employer roster in advance, which is normal for this series.

⚠️ Read This Before You Go

The September 23 Next Chapter fair has passed, but two lessons from it carry over to the next one in the series. First, the 55+ requirement is the point of the event, not a suggestion. Second, times drift: an earlier edition of the series ran a 4:00 to 6:00 PM window, and the September date was listed for 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Confirm at (402) 444-4700 before you build your day around the next one.

More broadly: none of the Heartland Workforce Solutions listings publish an admission price. HWS operates the American Job Center for the Greater Omaha area, so the odds are good, but we're not going to print a number nobody published. Ask when you call. LiveWell DressWell's December 9 fair is listed by the Nebraska Department of Labor as free for job seekers.

Bellevue Career Fair and Business Expo — Thursday, September 24

10:00 AM – 2:00 PM | Bellevue Lied Activity Center, 2700 Arboretum Dr.

One of two events on this list that Heartland Workforce Solutions does not run, and the biggest room of September. The Bellevue Chamber of Commerce and Community split the Lied Activity Center down the middle: a career fair on one side, a business expo on the other, which meant half the tables were there to sell to other companies rather than to hire. Named partners included Hillcrest Health and Living, LiveWell DressWell, Metropolitan Community College and GDIT. No 2026 booth roster was published ahead of the fair; the 2025 edition drew more than 60 employers. Career Readiness Workshop — Thursday, October 1

The first Thursday of October, and the first event on this list after the September crush. HWS schedules this one roughly monthly, so call (402) 444-4700 and ask when the next one lands. It's ninety minutes and it resets the whole approach rather than polishing one document.

Goodwill Omaha Trades Job Fair — Wednesday, October 14

This one was built for people who would rather build, fix, haul or care for something than sit at a desk. Goodwill Omaha brought employers from healthcare, construction, hospitality, transportation, warehouse, manufacturing and plumbing into its headquarters for four hours. No employer list or pay ranges were published ahead of the fair. → See details

Spooktacular Job Fair — Wednesday, October 28

HWS closes out the fall with its 6th annual Spooktacular, a multi-employer job fair at the Ames Avenue center that the workforce board lists as open to all. The 4:00 start means a day-shift worker can come straight from the plant without burning a vacation day. No employer list, job counts or pay ranges have been published yet. LiveWell DressWell Community Job Fair — Wednesday, December 9

3:00 – 6:00 PM | LiveWell DressWell, 9910 N. 48th St., Suite 200A

The north Omaha nonprofit that gives away free interview clothes is hosting its own community job fair, free for job seekers and open to everyone, according to the Nebraska Department of Labor's job fair calendar. Employers pay a $50 table fee that goes back into the clothing program. No employer list has been published and tables are still being sold, so treat it as a general fair and go open to more than one kind of role. It lands after the holiday seasonal rush is staffed, which makes it a good afternoon for anyone whose seasonal job ends in December. Bring several printed resumes. → See details

📋 What to Bring to Any of Them

  • Six to ten printed resumes. Recruiters at a three-hour table still take paper.
  • A photo ID, and your work history with real dates — employer names, months, supervisors.
  • Your shift availability written down. For production roles this is the question that decides it.
  • Copies of any licenses and certifications, especially for trades and plant roles.
  • A phone number that works and a voicemail box that isn't full.
  • Something you can wear that says you'd show up that way on day one. Nobody needs a suit for a plant job.

What is the difference between a job fair and an Employer Spotlight?

A job fair puts many employers in one room on one day. An Employer Spotlight is a single company holding a table for a few hours. The spotlight gives you more time with one recruiter; the fair gives you more options in one trip. This calendar has five job fairs and three employers that held spotlights, five spotlight sessions in all.

Do I need to register in advance?

HWS has historically used a registration form for the Next Chapter series, and the mock interview days almost certainly run on appointment slots. For the October 28 Spooktacular, HWS asks job seekers to register through its event page. LiveWell DressWell has not posted any job seeker registration for its December 9 fair; only employers sign up, for tables.

Can anyone attend the Next Chapter job fair?

No. It is built for job seekers 55 and older and is advertised that way. If you're younger, the October 28 Spooktacular is listed as open to all, and the December 9 LiveWell DressWell fair welcomes everyone.

Is there anything in Sarpy County or Council Bluffs?

Two, and both have now passed: the evening resume and cover letter workshop on September 16 at Lift Up Sarpy County, and the Bellevue Career Fair and Business Expo on September 24 at the Lied Activity Center. Everything still ahead on this calendar sits inside Omaha proper. Nothing on the Iowa side turned up on the workforce board's calendar for this window.
