Omaha Hiring Events Fall 2026: Job Fair, Employer Spotlights and Free Workshops

OMAHA, NE — The metro's busiest hiring calendar this month isn't at a convention center or a hotel ballroom. It's inside two plain government buildings, one at 60th and Ames on the north side and one a few blocks off 24th and L in South Omaha, where Heartland Workforce Solutions runs the American Job Center for the Greater Omaha area. Between now and the first of October, its calendar carries a job fair, three employers holding recruiting tables and a run of free workshops — and almost none of it gets a press release.

Eight events, September 14 through October 1, spread across north Omaha, South Omaha and Sarpy County. One is a true job fair with an age requirement. The rest are recruiting sessions and skills workshops, and we've labeled which is which.

Employer Spotlight: Punch Card — Monday, September 14 and Monday, September 21

11:00 AM – 2:00 PM | September 14 at 5752 Ames Ave.; September 21 at 4425 S 24th St.

Same employer, two Mondays, two sides of town. An Employer Spotlight is not a job fair — it's one company holding a table for three hours, which in practice means you get far more of a recruiter's attention than you would at a ballroom event with forty booths. The first session sits at the Ames Avenue center in north Omaha, the second at the South 24th Street center. Heartland Workforce Solutions has not published the roles or the pay range for these sessions, so treat it as a conversation rather than an application, and bring a resume you'd be comfortable leaving behind.

Employer Spotlight: BHJ USA — Tuesday, September 15 and Tuesday, September 22

11:00 AM – 2:00 PM | Heartland Workforce Solutions, 5752 Ames Ave.

BHJ USA runs an Omaha plant producing pet food ingredients, and the roles it posts locally skew toward production operator work across day, mid and night shifts. Two sessions in eight days at the same building is usually a sign a company is filling more than one seat. Production work here rewards showing up with a clean work history and open shift availability more than it rewards a polished resume — night-shift flexibility is often the thing that moves you to the front. Resume Workshop with Dynamic Workforce Solutions — Tuesday, September 15

10:00 AM – 11:30 AM | Heartland Workforce Solutions, 5752 Ames Ave.

Ninety minutes, and the scheduling here is deliberate: it ends at 11:30 and the BHJ USA spotlight in the same building starts at 11:00 and runs to 2:00. Walk out of one and into the other with a resume somebody just looked at. That is the single most efficient two-hour block on this entire calendar, and it costs you one morning.

Resume and Cover Letter Workshop, Sarpy County — Wednesday, September 16

5:00 PM – 7:30 PM | Lift Up Sarpy County

The only evening session on the list, and the only one south of the Douglas County line. If you're working days in Papillion, La Vista or Bellevue and cannot take a Tuesday morning off, this is your session. Heartland Workforce Solutions lists the venue by name but does not publish a street address on its calendar, so confirm the location before you drive — call HWS at (402) 444-4700.

Mock Interview Days — Wednesday, September 16 and Wednesday, September 23

8:00 AM – 3:00 PM | Heartland Workforce Solutions, 5752 Ames Ave.

A seven-hour window on each of two Wednesdays, which suggests appointment slots rather than a room you sit in all day. Mock interviews are the most underused free service in the metro. If it has been a few years since anyone asked you to explain a gap in your work history out loud, doing it once in a room where nothing is at stake is worth more than another evening spent rewriting bullet points. Call ahead — a seven-hour window almost certainly means you need a time.

Employer Spotlight: Fortrex — Tuesday, September 22

Fortrex does food-plant sanitation work, an industry with a real Omaha footprint given how much protein processing runs through this metro and the towns around it. This one carries a catch: the HWS calendar lists the date and time but does not say which of its two centers is hosting, and the two are about eight miles apart. Do not guess. Next Chapter: Job Fair, Ages 55+ — Wednesday, September 23

2:00 PM – 4:00 PM | Heartland Workforce Solutions, 5752 Ames Ave.

This is the only actual job fair on the calendar, and it is built for one group. "Next Chapter" is a recurring HWS event aimed at job seekers 55 and older — people coming out of a long career, people who retired and found out they weren't done, people whose industry moved on without them. The value of an age-targeted room is that nobody in it is going to be surprised by a thirty-year work history. HWS has not published the employer roster in advance, which is normal for this series.

⚠️ Read This Before You Go

Two honest cautions on the September 23 fair. First, the 55+ requirement is the point of the event, not a suggestion — if you're 42 and looking, one of the employer spotlights is a better use of your afternoon. Second, an earlier edition of this same series ran a 4:00 to 6:00 PM window, and the current calendar lists 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Times in a recurring series drift. More broadly: none of these eight listings publish an admission price. Heartland Workforce Solutions operates the American Job Center for the Greater Omaha area, so the odds are good, but we're not going to print a number nobody published. Ask when you call.

Career Readiness Workshop — Thursday, October 1

The first Thursday of October, and the one event on this list that runs after the September crush. HWS schedules this one roughly monthly. If you read this far and every September date is already spoken for, this is the one to put on the calendar — it's ninety minutes and it resets the whole approach rather than polishing one document.

55 and older, ready to work: September 23, Next Chapter. It's the only event on this list built specifically for you, and it only comes around a couple of times a year.
Production, plant and shift work: BHJ USA on September 15 or 22, and Fortrex on September 22. Open shift availability is your strongest card.
South Omaha, and you'd rather not drive north: Punch Card on September 21 at the South 24th Street center.
Sarpy County, working days: September 16 in the evening. It's the only session that doesn't require taking time off.
Out of practice interviewing: a mock interview slot on September 16 or 23, before you walk into anything that counts.
Not sure where to start at all: the resume workshop on September 15, then straight into the BHJ session down the hall.
