Trader Joe's Second Omaha Store at Avenue One: What It Means for West Omaha Jobs

OMAHA, NE — West Omaha is getting its second Trader Joe's. The grocer has listed a "Coming Soon" store at 210 North 191st Street inside Avenue One, the big mixed-use development taking shape southeast of 192nd and West Dodge Road, and that means a new batch of grocery jobs is headed for the far west edge of the metro. No opening date and no hiring numbers have been announced yet, so this is the time to get ready, not the time to wait in line.

A 13,500-square-foot Trader Joe's is coming to Avenue One near 192nd and Burke, the chain's first new Omaha store since it opened near 103rd and Pacific in 2010.

What's Confirmed and What Isn't

Trader Joe's filed a city permit back in April for a new building on an undeveloped parcel at Avenue One, and WOWT reported the filing at the time. The store has now moved onto the chain's own list of upcoming locations, and Grow Omaha reported on October 22 that the listing shows the North 191st Street address and a footprint of 13,500 square feet.

What nobody has said yet: when the doors open, how many people the store will hire, or what it will pay. Trader Joe's hasn't announced a headcount, and we won't guess at one. Watch the company's careers page and be ready when crew postings go up.

Why Avenue One Matters for West Omaha Jobs

Trader Joe's isn't the only name headed for the corner of 192nd and Dodge. Developer Poag Development Group, working with Omaha's Jasper Partners, has already announced Arhaus, West Elm, Williams-Sonoma and Pottery Barn for the roughly 200-acre site, according to Grow Omaha, with a grand opening for the development anticipated in 2027.

Put those together and you get a cluster of retail floor jobs, stockroom work and store management roles landing in one spot out by Elkhorn. For people in west Omaha, Elkhorn or Waterloo, that's a shorter commute than Oakview or Westroads, and it adds to the hiring already coming at Baker's Marketplace at 204th and Q.

💼 The Kind of Work to Expect

Trader Joe's staffs its stores with crew members and a smaller group of supervisors called mates, plus a store captain at the top. Crew members work the register, bag groceries, stock shelves, help shoppers find things and keep the floor moving. Stores also lean on people who can hand-letter signs, so if you're good with chalk or a paint pen, mention it.

In other markets, the company has posted crew jobs for upcoming stores on its own careers site ahead of opening, with evening and weekend availability a big plus.

  • Tighten up your resume around customer service, cash handling and stocking.
